Shopify Summer 2025 Edition — what store owners need to know
The key changes from Shopify's Summer 2025 release that affect clothing and fashion brands. New checkout features, Markets updates, and developer tools.
Shopify's Summer 2025 Edition introduced a set of changes that directly affect how clothing and fashion stores operate. Here is what matters most.
Checkout extensibility is now the only way to customise checkout on Shopify Plus. If your store uses old checkout.liquid customisations, these will stop working. The new Checkout UI Extensions system gives you more flexibility and better performance — but it requires a rebuild.
Shopify Markets received significant updates including better language detection, currency switching improvements, and a new market-level inventory routing system. For brands selling to multiple countries, this removes a lot of the custom logic that was previously needed.
The Storefront API has new Cart transformation APIs that allow for complex cart-level discount and bundle logic without requiring Shopify Plus Functions. This is a meaningful change for brands running promotions like BOGO or tiered discounts.
On the developer tooling side, the Shopify CLI 3.0 introduces local theme development improvements and a faster hot-reload cycle. Theme developers will notice build times are significantly reduced.
For clothing brands specifically: the new Combined Listings feature allows a single product to have multiple handle variants with separate images, SEO metadata, and social sharing per variant. This is especially powerful for products where colour or style dramatically changes the look — like swimwear or casualwear.
