May 2025 brought several incremental updates to the Shopify platform. None are individually dramatic, but together they represent meaningful improvements for fashion store operators.

The Metaobjects API received expanded query filtering, making it much easier to use metaobjects as a backend for custom content like lookbooks, editorial pages, and size guides — without needing a headless setup.

Shopify Flow added new triggers and conditions for customer segmentation automation. You can now trigger flows based on first purchase product category — useful for fashion brands that want to send different post-purchase sequences for buyers of tops versus footwear.

The Online Store editor gained new section grouping features, making it easier to organise complex page templates. For brands with large homepage builds, this significantly improves the editor experience.

Product taxonomy updates expanded the structured attribute system for apparel. Shopify now has standardised attributes for things like fit, material, care instructions, and occasion — which feed directly into Google Shopping and Shopify Markets localisation.

If you use Shopify's native search and discovery, the filter system now supports price range sliders natively without requiring third-party apps. This was a common pain point for fashion brands with wide price ranges.
