Apple Pay Is Now a Shopify Payment Method and Supports Subscriptions

Shopify has rolled out a major update that now allows Apple Pay to function as a full payment method, not just an Express Checkout option. This enhancement, launched on May 16, 2025, gives merchants and customers a more flexible and seamless checkout experience.

Apple Pay Is Now a Shopify Payment Method and Supports Subscriptions

What’s New?

Previously, Apple Pay only appeared as an Express Checkout button, typically at the top of the checkout page. Now, it’s fully integrated into the list of standard payment methods on Shopify stores. This means customers can select Apple Pay just like any other option, streamlining the payment process for a broader range of users.

Even better, Shopify announced on May 20, 2025, that Apple Pay is now supported for subscription payments as well. This is a major win for merchants offering recurring products or services.

How to Enable Apple Pay on Shopify

If you already have Shopify Payments and Express Checkout enabled, Apple Pay should be working by default. If not, follow these simple steps:

  1. Go to your Shopify Admin
  2. Navigate to Settings > Payments
  3. Under Shopify Payments, click Manage
  4. Scroll down to Advanced Settings and click Manage
  5. Locate Apple Pay and activate it

Once enabled, Apple Pay will be available both as a regular payment method and for subscriptions.

Why This Matters

With more customers using Apple Pay for fast and secure checkouts, this integration helps boost conversion rates and improves the overall shopping experience. It also simplifies recurring billing for subscription-based stores.

If you’re a Shopify merchant, now’s the time to make sure Apple Pay is enabled on your store!
