If you’re running a Shopify store, providing a smooth and user-friendly cart experience is crucial. Fortunately, Shopify allows you to display the shopping cart in different formats depending on your theme settings.

In this post, I’ll walk you through three easy methods to display your cart: as a page, a drawer, and a pop-up notification.

🧩 Step 1: Show Cart as a Page (Default)

  1. Select Your Theme:

Log in to your Shopify admin.

Go to Online Store > Themes, then click Customize on your active theme.

  1. Open Cart Settings:

Scroll down or navigate to Settings > Cart within the theme editor.

  1. Select “Page” Format:

By default, the cart is usually set to open as a full page.

Save the changes.

  1. Test the Cart:

Visit your store.

Click Add to Cart on any product.

You’ll be redirected to a separate Cart page.

🧰 Step 2: Show Cart as a Drawer (Slide-In)

  1. Go Back to Cart Settings:

In the same Cart settings section, change the cart type to Drawer.

  1. Save the Settings.
  2. Preview the Drawer Cart:

Go back to your store.

Click Add to Cart again.

Now, the cart will slide in from the side as a drawer, without redirecting to another page.

🔔 Step 3: Show Cart as a Pop-Up Notification

  1. Select the “Pop-up” Option:

Again, go to Settings > Cart in the customizer.

Choose Pop-up as the cart display method.

  1. Click Save.
  2. Try It Out:

Refresh your store and add a product to the cart.

A pop-up notification will appear confirming the item has been added, instead of taking you to a separate page or drawer.

✅ Final Thoughts
With Shopify, it’s easy to control how your cart behaves with just a few clicks. Whether you prefer a traditional cart page, a sleek drawer, or a minimal pop-up – you can customize it to match your store’s user experience.
